Involvement in a diversity of
European educational projects

The Aarhus Social and Healthcare College has always been very active on the international scene. Study visits, international partners and mobility activities has been a natural part of the everyday learning community.
But since the start of the new millenium the international activities has been given still more priority.
Due to the ethnical diversity of the students and to the European focus on social and health issues it is only natural, that the college is becomming still more involved in transnational cooperation.
The European educational project cooperation is developed within the large EU educational programmes: Grundtvig, Commenius, Leonardo, CULTURE and the new Lifelong Learning Programme 2007-13.
The college is the promoter and coordinator of several European cooperation projects.
The college has a large European network of experienced partners and is very active in the establisment and maintainance of a strong strategical network, based on the principles and mission of the EU Lifelong Learning strategy.

• BOIT (BURN-OUT)
LEONARDO
2009-11

The European Working Conditions Survey highlighted that occupational illnesses associated with psychological stress are on the rise throughout the EU member states. The project BOIT addresses a specific mental health syndrome characterized by emotional, mental and physical exhaustion: the burnout syndrome. In one widely cited and used model of burnout, Maslach and Leiter explain burnout as a crisis in one's relationship with work, during which affected persons become chronically exhausted, cynical and detached from work, and feel increasingly ineffective on the job (Maslach/Leiter, The Truth about Burnout, 1997).

There are several European projects that deal with promoting health and safety at the workplace or with preventing vocational stress. However, none of them has developed intervention strategies for managers to deal with psycho-social illnesses generated by specific working conditions .

Therefore, the aim of this project is to prevent working situations that promote burnout, and, perhaps even more importantly, to enable team leaders to detect burnout among their staff early and to define strategies to intercept the burnout progress. Burnout is a phenomenon which does not appear all of a sudden but develops slowly and gradually. This overall aim will be reached by devloping and testing a further education programme for managers and team leaders.

MINDWELLNESS
GRUNDTVIG
2008-10

Mindwellness is a Grundtvig project financed by the European Commission
Many recent studies show that the fitness of mind could be conserved for a long time and the decline of memory could be slower if people use their mind frequently.

In this sense, in some countries (like US and Japan) this subject has leaded the creation of new services: to help the elderly people to preserve the fitness of their mind. There are many people from the target group who would like and are willing to do a lot of things for preserving the fitness of their mind and avoiding the decline of their memory or minimum slowing it. These people do not want to use the new knowledge collected by mind training for aim of their working or business carrier but to develop lifelong learning activities that keep their minds fit and also their learning capacities.

Within this context, this project aims at developing innovative training materials addressed to elder people (working or retired people) in order to preserve the fitness of their mind and prevent dementia. The project execution will count on other additional benefits as it will provide the target collective new knowledge that can be used in their daily life and improve their quality of life.

The project is coordinated by the Spanish workers union UGT – Euskadi (www.ugteuskadi.org) and the other partners - beside Arhus Social and Health College – are from Austria, Germany, Estonia, Hungary, Italy, Poland and UK.

EduCore
GRUNDTVIG 2008-10

EduCoRe is a Grundtvig project financed by the European Commission
EduCoRe will provide educational and vocational counselling services and training in (inter-)personal skills for patients in medical rehabilitation centres. This offer will support them

    1. to make thoroughly reflected career decisions
    2. to identify the types of further education they need in this specific situation to improve their employability
    3. to develop and strengthen the personal competences necessary to put their professional and educational decisions into practice

Thus, they are able to reintegrate more easily into the labour market and to actively participate in society after the period of medical rehabilitation.
The project’s counselling and training approach will be a blended one: Elements of e-counselling and e-learning will be integral parts of the service. A reason therefore is that information and communication technologies have a high potential for people who are restricted in their mobility or who change their location several times in the process of medical rehabilitation.

The Project is coordinated by the Austrian “Die Berater” (www.dieberater.com) and the other partners - beside Aarhus Social and Health Care College - are from Austria, Italy, Germany and Slovenia

In order to provide a suitable solution to cope with the workers training needs, the project main objectives are

  • to provide an user-friendliness e-learning environment,
  • to customize the learning process on the specific needs of each student,
  • to provide an on-line constant presence and to stimulate
  • to preserve a high level of motivation.

The project is coordinated by the Italian ForCom and the other project partners -beside Aarhus Social and Health Care College - are from Romania, UK, Slovenia and Switzerland.

PARENTING IN A MULTICULTURAL EUROPEAN CITY
GRUNDTVIG 2006-09

Project aims
Project partners are European Cities with a need to encourage integration as part of their regeneration strategy. Developing intercultural awareness needs to involve disadvantaged adults from the resident communities as much as refugees, asylum seekers, migrant workers and Roma people. Recruiting indigenous disadvantaged adults to enable intercultural dialogue and integrated learning can be problematic. This project will focus on Parenting in Modern Europe, as a learning theme of common interest across cultures. The project does not intend to develop parenting interventions, but to work with groups of disadvantaged and target group beneficiaries to identify their shared and different intercultural views on parenting, identify existing support mechanisms available to assist parents in difficult environments and envisage the policy changes and support mechanisms that would assist parenting in multicultural European cities.

Partnership
The college will be a partner in the project and the project is expected to have partners from 5-6 other European countries.
The project is promoted by Swansea University in Wales.

The involvement of the College
The college is expected to be involved in all key elements of the project.

ETIMOS – Empowering Teachers In Motivating and Orienteering Students
COMMENIUS 2006-08

Project aims
The general aim of this project is to reduce drop – out and increase motivation and learning standards for youngers. These are two essential conditions to affirm a policy of social inclusion and equal opportunities as well as to build our common “Society of knowledge”.
The specific purpose of the project are to encourage and sustain the teachers – throughout an adequate training - in programming and implementing innovative methods developing measures capable to increase the studying learning motivation of their pupils.
More in detail, the purpose is to create instruments and training measures which can increase the teacher’s capacities in:
o Re-project school curricula;
o Utilising techniques and methods inspired by the active, involving and participated pedagogy;
o To improve the relational atmosphere within the classroom and among students and with teachers;
o Programme and implement paths for welcoming new students, ways for sustaining school attendance, tutoring for students, as well as gangways (“passerelle”) which enable pupils to move from one school to another when they realise that their first choice was not appropriate according expectations and personal capacities.
o In achieving these objectives this project aims to give value and optimize the relationship among schools, and with local institutions and the community which can be considered the meaningful contexts where the motivating action towards the pupils has to take place and has to be considered as powerful. In particular, the institutions support the local schools in realising their training and pedagogical tasks; the community represents the living environment of the students, the habitat where they can experience and test their school learning.

Partnership
The college will be a full partner in the project and the project is expected to have partners from 5-6 other European countries.
The project is promoted by an organisation in Milano..

The involvement of the College
The college is expected to be involved in all key elements of the project.

MIKI – media learning in childcare institutions
GRUNDTVIG 2 LEARNING PARTNERSHIP 2007

Project aims
Miki promotes throughout the generations the medium competence of families and professional responsible persons. Emphasis is thereby the parent / grandparent education in order to integrate reflected handling with the media environment in their family lives. The preschool range received little attention in this connection so far.
One basic in media education is the educationally use of media to reflect the purely consuming use. Today in all social areas, extensive digital skills are a key qualification. Like reading, writing and arithmetic, information and communication technologies (ICT), above all the internet, represent a cultural technique. It is such important for later school success in today's communications-and information society. The everyday culture in familys while handling media however e.g. unreflected television has negative effects on reading and writing and thus on the education chances of the children.

Partnership
The project is promoted by City Learning Net partner IBAF, Rendsburg, Germany. The project is expected to have 10 partners.

The involvement of the College
The college is expected to be a key partner, because we have developed and carried out a large Children and Multimedia project in Aarhus in 2005 in cooperation with the local government and IBM - and because the college is able to call on our in house multimedia department, sosuMedia.
Besides that, the college is a partner in new national Children and Multimedia projects, being developed in 2006.

SAGE – senior advisors in social planning for the elderly
LEONARDO 2006-08

Project aims
SAGE is aimed at developing senior advisors in the care for the elderly. Our target group are unemployed people 50+ who want to work as advisors of providers for older peoples' services. We plan to take into account their former learning and working experiences. Based on the outcome of an assessment of their prior learning we will develop a modular curriculum to equip them for their new field of work. These senior advisers should function as intermediaries between providers and older people, capable of searching the needs of older people as regards housing, care, leisure-time activities etc.

Partnership
The college will be a partner in the project and the project is expected to have partners from 5-6 other European countries.
The project is promoted by Volkshilfe Steiermark in Graz, Austria.
